"At least 60 years ago we came, before with our father, Antonino Arzallus", indicate cider brothers Ergobia Joaquin and Andoni Arzallus, who always come to the first meeting, along with his brother-in-law Iñaki Garaño, 84 Two and 87, the oldest. They are accompanied by two of their children, Aitor Garaño and Iñaki Arzallus.
But what is Apurua, exactly? It could come from hurry the first cider, when it is still very young and rushes to try it. A tradition that goes back decades in the Gurutzeta cider house, and that this year we have been able, once again, to enjoy and document this video.
And what is this tradition about? The neighborhood, family and close people are called on this day, December 24, to try the new cider, which will be drunk next year. It is, specifically, the first tasting of the new sagardoa. An event that, due to various factors, is slowly disappearing from the cider calendar in Astigarraga, Gipuzkoa and Euskal Herria.
Fortunately, Gurutzeta did not stop and on December 24, 2019, more than fifty people gathered in this wonderful tasting evening. And that we continue to hurry them all and all many more nights.
